Finding Limuru
Some 30 miles west of Nairobi, Kenya, lies the town of Limuru. Limuru was once the site of a shoe factory that employed some 8,000. Now the factory has drastically reduced its operations, and Limuru has high unemployment and homelessness. A bedroom community to Nairobi, it is home to tea plantations and has many slums. The HIV/AIDS pandemic has orphaned thousands of children here, as in other cities, and sent many to live on the streets, where they are often involved in theft, drug trafficking and prostitution. A notorious slum is Misiri ( Swahili word for Biblical Egypt). Grace Ministries operates its educational and medical/social outreach programs, offering hope to the children and families of this distressed area.
