The Grace Journal is a place where Rev. Wambugu, and perhaps occasionally others of the Grace Ministries staff, will summarize the work of the day or week. We want you to feel that you are an active part of our work and our lives, and hope that this on-going journal of our activities our joys, our sorrows, and our day-to-day work will help to bring you more closely into our world.
God bless you for your interest and your support!

7th WEEK ENDING 24TH FEB:
This was a fine week .The weather was quite hot throughout the week. All school programmes went on uninterrupted .The Rift valley fever disaster continued being worse hence the school budget continued being stressed because we could not give the pupils meat on Thursday. We had an ugly experience on Tuesday. Eric a pupil in Class three has a record of being a bully. He bullied a child from the neighbourhood who is a pupil of Grace School. The childs parents accosted Eric on Tuesday and got a thorough beating. When Eric got home he told his grandmother and father who are his guardians that his Teacher Jackline had done the beating. The guardians were very bitter and went to Samuel by night to protest the incident. On Wednesday Samuel reported to the Head Teacher about the incident. The Head teacher did the investigation and it was discovered that the boy had gotten the beating outside the School. This was a very sad experience to Jackline and to the School. We do not punish our children by beating not to mention the cruel way that Eric had been beaten. Corporal punishment is forbidden by the Ministry of Education and can only be administered by the Head Teacher as a last result. An allegation like this has seen teachers being jailed and we did not take the case politely. The issue has been settled and the administration apologised to teacher Jackline. Samuel has stayed busy through the week and the same is to continue for the next two weeks. The week ended without further incidents and pupils cleaned pupils cleaned their classrooms on Friday. WEEK ENDING 17TH FEB
We had a good weather this week. It was sunny but not very hot. The temperatures range was 22 degrees high and 16 degrees low. Learning went on without incidences. Thursday feeding menu is a concern. This is the day that children eat meat. Meat in Kenya is a big risk as of now. It is strange that we are moving from one disaster to another in Kenya. We are just celebrating that there is no famine this year when a strange viral disease affecting cattle, sheep and goats has become a National disaster. This viral disease is spread through mosquito bites, eating infected animal or its products. It is being referred to as Rift Valley fever and has symptoms of Malaria accompanied by severe haemorrhage leading to quick death to both animals and human beings. Many Kenyans from the Pastoral Community have died. The only protection one has is not to eat animal products, but with limited control on mosquito. People are being advised to sleep under mosquito nets which are out of reach of the poor like Grace Children and their families. We intend to supplement the meat on Thursday with eggs. This will inflate the feeding budget, but it is the only wise way. We experienced a shortage of teachers on Friday. Jane had to attend a funeral of her uncle. Esther urgently was wanted to attend a meeting in her Church as she is the Outreach Treasurer. The problem was partially solved by teacher Jackline taking over Easters class and Samuel staying in the office for Jane. This problem is because of having two members of staff on maternity leave. This was the week for Mid-month and teachers got their salary advance as it has always happened. Salary advance is given to assist the teacher to get to the end of the month. This advance is then recovered at the end of the month. Have a great week Samuel.

WEEK ENDING 10TH FEB. This was a good week .All school programmes went on as planned. The weather has been very hot throughout the week. Pupils had to keep drinking water to quench their thirst. On Tuesdays the school gives them juice as part of the feeding programme during lunch. We had an unfortunate experience when we found that one full bag of corn we had bought was all rotten and unfit for human consumption. We had bought the corn from a person who purports to be a friend of Grace School, but who has now injured our trust. This is a great loss in relation to our resources. The week ended with pupils cleaning their classes. Be Blessed.
Mrs Jane W. Njenga. Headteacher.
I am very thankful to God for Jane. Miriam is on leave and I have more outside engagements this period especially at the Church. Jane has therefore to deal with her teaching as well as do in house and outside business. It is rear to find a person with gifts like Jane who uses them with great humility. Let us pray for her especially for her financial support being the sole bread winner in a family of five. Samuel.

WEEK ENDING 3RD FEB
This was a fine week with some light showers in the mornings. All school programmes went on as planned. Pupils were busy doing end of month tests which enables them to remember what they have been taught for that month. The weekly tests do not only gauge the pupils, but also informs the teacher if she/he is communicating. It is our tradition as also it is a Biblical imperative to rejoice with them that are rejoicing. Jennifer who is one of out teachers on maternity leave has a baby girl. The teachers went to visit her on Friday. Teachers contribute Shs.200 each and the School office tops the balance to make total contribution to Shs.5000.00. We then buy some few items for the child like clothes and food for the mother. The teachers do this from their meagre salary and this enhances the team spirit and encourages in a meaningful way the person we visit. Samuel has been very busy this week. They moved from their old rented house to their new home which they have been building for the last two years. It is not yet complete, but it is habitable and it could have not been logical to renew the tenancy on their old house. The week ended well with pupils cleaning their classes. Thank you for your prayers and support that has enabled us to continue offering a holistic ministry to these dear ones. Have a pleasant week. Mrs. Jane Njenga. (Head Teacher)
