Back to Current Journal

The Grace Journal is a place where Rev. Wambugu, and perhaps occasionally others of the Grace Ministries staff, will summarize the work of the day or week. We want you to feel that you are an active part of our work and our lives, and hope that this on-going journal of our activities – our joys, our sorrows, and our day-to-day work – will help to bring you more closely into our world.

God bless you for your interest and your support!

11th week ending 24th march 2007

This was a good week.
The weather was very windy all through as we approach long rains which start at the end of March to May.
It was a busy week when pupils are still busy preparing for the end of the term examinations. Some few pupils fell ill: Dickson Mach aria class three got sick and the father was called by the headteacher to take him to hospital.
Erick koikai also in class three misbehaved on his way home and the head teacher asked the guardian to come to school on Monday to discuss the issue.
As we now approach the end of the first term we are happy with the progress the pupils are making and the revision the teachers are taking them through. We continuously pray for the pupils that as they sit for the exams next week that the lord will grant them good health.
There are legal education requirement for a School to become an examination Center and Samuel started the process in June last year with the local Authority office. They have given him a very difficult time because he could not yield to their demands for bribery. We finally got their signature on Thursday the 22nd. The next step is to forward the same to the District Education Board and finally to the Ministry of Education Head Office in Nairobi. We pray that the process will now continue without further hindrance as we have met all the needed conditions.
Have a blessed week.

10th WEEK ENDING 17TH MATCH 2007

This was a good week. The weather was quite hot and dusty. The school programmes went on as planned as we approach the end of term, lot of
Seriousness was noted with pupils settling down to revise their work in readiness for the examinations. The head teacher booked the end
of term one examinations which are scheduled for the 28th-30th March 2007. This time round we are planning to have the pupils sit for Divisional examinations. These examinations are meant to gauge our performance in relation to neighboring schools both public and private.
Usually the pupils sit for School based Examinations which are slightly
complex and intensive than the latter that are used mainly by the public schools. The schools business manager handled most of the pending work in the Accounts department and the administrator taking up her new duties.
The young children ages 3-4 have been having difficult taking their afternoon nap. They used to lean on their table while still seated and some used to fall off. The teacher was always on guard for this eventuality. It was decided to buy mattresses to enable the children have a comfortable afternoon rest and remove the teachers anxiety on their safety. When funds become available more mattresses and bed sheets will be bought.
The week ended well with no incidents.
Incase you read something which is not clear; please feel free to write for further clarification.
Have a blessed week

9TH WEEK ENDING 10TH MARCH

The whether was very hot through out the week with highs above 22 degrees Celsius. This made afternoon learning difficult with children being sleepy.
Miriam the School secretary resumed work on Monday after completing her maternity leave. She will however be working only in the morning so that she can keep her accounts record right for the months she has been away. We thank Jane who took the financial role on top of her work and performed it with diligence.
Lilian the new School Administrator started working on Monday and she took the week getting oriented to the different aspect of learning at Grace. She is resourceful and willing with great ideas of how to introduce extra curricula learning that will give skills to the pupils. We see Lilians presence as an answer to prayer that we get someone with skills that can be taught to the children. Lilian has sewing and cookery skills which can be of great value in life to the children and their families.
Mohamoud Mohamed a standard seven pupil became sick at School on Wednesday. He was give first Aid and when he did not feel better he was taken home to be observed and taken to hospital, He was taken to hospital and diagnosed to be with Malaria. He was given medicines and he improving although he has not come beck to School.
Samuel had a busy week traveling to far places to do site visits on behalf of SDOP.
On Friday the pupils did their weekly routine cleaning and went home until Monday. We are approaching the end of 1St term and both teachers and pupils are preparing for the end of the term examination.
Have a blessed week
Samuel.

8TH WEEK ENDING 3RD MARCH:

I apologize for the delay in posting the Journal. There was no internet in my town and i am doing this in a town 150 miles away from my home town. I am on the way to do site visits located anout 250 miles away on behalf of the presbyterian Council on the self Development of people.(SDOP).

This was a good week .It was a short week .All school programmes went on well .Pupils broke on Thursday for mid-term which was to be on Friday and Saturday. Teachers went for their annual retreat on Friday to a serene place called Lost Paradise .The teachers took time to sing, pray and listen for exaltation from the word of God given By Rev. Samuel Wambugu the School Administrator. This was a very extra ordinary retreat as the team looked at the achievements for the past one year. The group expressed great joy at what God has done in the provision of material needs specifically the funds to finish the classrooms and to commence construction of the Kitchen/ Dinning Hall. Prayers were offered for our Partners who have been very faithful in sending their gifts on time. It was noted with great appreciation that all the Partners have agreed to continue with the support this year.
Rev. Samuel Wambugu has become very busy to work effectively as the School Administrator. On Monday and Tuesday he was attending a Church meeting. On Thursday he was doing a funeral and on Saturday he had a Bible Class he was teaching at the Church. It became imminent that Samuel needs someone to assist him.
We thank God who has given us Miss Lilian Nderitu who has joined the team as a volunteer Administrator (More about Lilian will appear on the Newsletter). Lilian is a University Graduate with a degree in Home Economics and a higher diploma in Human resources management. She has done Church work in Southern Sudan for One and Half years. She will be taking most of the work that Samuel used to do.
Grace works very closely with Community Presbyterian Church which Samuel is the Pastor. We exchange and assist each other with resources. The timber that were used to the Lintel of the Dining/Kitchen at Grace were removed on Friday and Saturday to be used to do the Lintel of Community Presbyterian Church new Sanctuary.
Thank you for your continued prayers and have a blessed week.
Samuel.
