Grace Ministries' News Update

May - August, 2006

This newsletter has delayed for two weeks and we apologize to our esteemed partners and friends who are always eager to hear what is going at Grace School and currently also Community Presbyterian Church.

CAUSES FOR THE DELAY

We have been using a very old slow word processor which finally crushed. We shared our dilemma with Dan McDowell of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Dan designed and maintains the magnificent Grace Ministries web site. Dan shared our need with Bethel Presbyterian Church and out of Ella Winsbro Memorial Fund the Session and Mission Committee graciously accepted to buy us a Computer.

Mrs. Miriam Mugambi the Grace School Business Manger and Accountant excitedly working with the new computer bought from Ella Winsbro Memorial Fund.

Another delay was because we wanted to report the good news about the building construction. The Global Mission Committee of 1st Presbyterian Church has given us enough money to put the walls and to roof the three classrooms on the final level. We can now say with certainty that we shall be having classes for January 2007.

STAFF

There has been a change in the teaching Staff, Eunice has proceeded on maternity leave and she already has a baby girl. Pastor James Mbatia has joined St. Paul's Theological College. Nelly has left for a three month short course on how to take care of girl child especially those coming from abused back ground.

TEACHING

Left to right: Esther, Felistus, Stella, Jackline, Pauline, Patrick, Jane, Margaret and Jeniffer

NON-TEACHING STAFF

Samuel, Monica Miriam, Josphat, Silas, Francis and David

FAMINE

The rain has been quite adequate and there is adequate food. We are now feeding children with the corn from the School garden and milk from Katie the School cow.

We believe that with a little more land for School and with a bore hole we can get out of the cyclic phenomenon of hunger.

ACADEMIC

We hold cleanliness and academic excellence pursuit in very high regard.

THE CHURCH

We thank God for the love of the word of God at CPC Church. There is notable growth in the depth of spirituality. We have not yet started discipleship class due to lack of a meeting room.

Two challenges face this church. Although the church has been inexistence for over 14 years, there is no permanent Sanctuary. The Lord is speaking to us through Haggai 2:4 and we have already put up the floor slab and determined to build a sanctuary that reflects the majesty of the God we worship.

Another challenge is the increasing number of people living with HIV/AIDS. This is because of the love and acceptance that they have received in the church. These people have formed a team called CPC Agape team. They do the visitation to the sick in the course of the week and we meet with the group leaders on Sunday for debriefing and word of encouragement from the scriptures.

Majority of the people in this group have no economic means of livelihood. There are economic activities that this team can undertake with very modest financial support.

If you feel that the Lord is speaking to you about this team write to CPC E-mail: cpclimuru@yahoo.com
