FROM THE DIRECTORS DESK

The year 2007 has many stories to it and with full of blessings starting from January. As earlier reported we started the year with less strain as we had room to accommodate the classes that we had. Our gratitude goes to 1st Presbyterian Church Knoxville and Pro-vision Foundation.
We have had a series of events and never have we felt neglected by our friends and partners as well as the Lord almighty through His provision and guidance. Our friends and partners have supported us with funds and gifts which have kept us going in meeting our on going expenses. You did even give a good speed response to Monica’s urgently Medical need. We give God glory to all this for giving people who were touched by what we perceived as emergency.
The dining hall which was at the lintel stage as at the end of 2006 has remained at the same stage since we did not get any additional funds to finish. We have however received some few gifts to continue and the funds have been used to make the grill windows which will be fixed later.
The co-operation of the administrative staff, teachers and pupils was excellent and this added to the comfort of the year. As a requirement from the Ministry of Education we engaged Lillian Ndiritu as an Administrator and Ann Njuguna as School Counselor to take up Guiding and Counseling. This constrained our already overstretched budget, but by the grace of God we made it. 2008 has started on a very sad note due to after election clashes, but we are closely monitoring the situation to see how we might help. Ann the School Counselor is helping the displaced children who have camped at a stone’s throw away camp, three days a week in Post Trauma Counseling. The camp has over 3000 internally displaced people with majority being women and children.

EDUCATION
Learning throughout the year has been great and the children cooperated with their teachers. The teachers have been very hardworking and dedicated to their work. The examinations were done well and there was a notable improvement in their class work.
We have continued to have a lot of Creative Arts so as to nurture the talents from the children. We have continued to do so amid a lot of financial difficulties and we hope once we have the dining room completed we will have room to set up a creative art centre. We are optimistic that with availability of funds have even have sewing machines to equip these young children with skills that would even make them self reliant should they fail to continue with their secondary education.

PIONEER CLASS
We have our class seven which is our pioneer class is now ready to proceed to their final class which is class eight. We have their classroom ready and the teachers are ready to teach. This class will mark the history of Grace School as they will raise our flag up high with their results. It will also be towards more recognition of our school.

EDUCATIONAL TOUR
During this year we almost gave up as we planned for the tour but we lacked funds and amazingly, we had central Baptist- Bearden being God sent and they catered for all the costs.
We had the younger children visiting the animal orphanages and the game parks and they really enjoyed.

CHRISTMAS PARTY
We had a colorful party this year.
The cost was also met by friends and part of the pledges by Central Baptist Bearden.
We had also some friends sending gifts to add onto the party. We had some nice food and sodas for the children and we danced. The children had lots of fun and the teachers too enjoyed the day.

CHANGE OF STAFF
We have had some teachers leaving Grace and others joining us.
Teacher Esther left us and was replaced by Teacher Teresa Wairimu taking up class two. She has been a blessing to us and the class two children are very happy to have her.
Teacher Catherine who left us first term upon getting married a place far from grace school was replaced by Teacher Patrick Karanja who is teaching the older children in languages and Social studies. He has been of great help within the games department and with HIV Programme.
This term we had Anne Njuguna taking up the guidance and counseling department and she has been helping with counseling the children and even reaching out to the parents who are ailing with HIV and AIDS. She has offered lot guidance in dealing with truant children as well discipline to the children.
We thank them for their contribution to the work of Grace School.

WEDDING BELLS
Wedding bells are again ringing at Grace School. Teacher Karanja will be marrying Rebecca on the 22nd December 2007. He will however continue teaching here at Grace as he will settle around Grace School. We wish him the very best on this great day in his life.
 |
| They did it! The staff was represented by Miriam and Jane as they presented them with the Grace School gift. It was a beautiful day for them. |
Miriam the school business manager will also hold her wedding on Christmas day. We wish her all the very best as she walks down the aisle.
 |
| And she did it! She looked beautiful with her prince Robert. |

COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The church has come through the year gracefully. Pastor Samuel has continued to offer his services to the church. The new sanctuary still awaits funds to complete the roof.
We are grateful to the Community Presbyterian Church members who are so much part of us here at Grace School. We thank the church members for their prayers and support.
